Sette note in nero (The Psychic/Murder to the Tune of the Seven Black Notes)

1977's Sette note in nero was Fulci's first giallo after a 5 year hiatus from the genre. Quite different from his earlier classics A Lizard in a Woman's Skin and Don't Torture a Duckling, The Psychic is still an excellent thriller and it still keeps growing on me on subsequent viewings. No info on the poster art.

Un gatto nel cervello (Nightmare Concert, A Cat in the Brain)

A guess hell finally froze over. It feels like we've been waiting for about a decade for the notoriously slow-moving Grindhouse to release the definitive version of Un Gatto nel cervello, but if nothing happens unexpected happens along the way Fulci's 1990 thriller should hit stores at the end of March. Considering Grindhouse seem to have picked up the pace lately, we might even get to see their release of Lenzi's The Though Ones before the end of the decade? Poster art by E. Sciotti

Murderock - uccide a passo di danza (Murder Rock)

It's time for another 80's week and what better way to start it off than with Fulci's Murder Rock. Made four years after the original Fame film and with the tv-series still running, the setting of this 1984 giallo must have seemed like a great idea at the time. Cue plenty of dance scenes, leotards, leg warmers, a very 80’s score by Keith Emerson and some cracking alternate titles that almost sound too good to be true: Slashdance and Giallo a Disco.
There’s some gut-wrenchingly bad Fame-inspired dialogue, hilarious dancing in skimpy outfits and apart from Cosimo Cinieri, the acting really isn’t all that great but I find Murderock strangely entertaining in spite of all this.

Non si sevizia un paperino (Don't Torture a Duckling)

Considering how great Non si sevizia un paperino and Una Lucertola con la pelle di donna are, it really is a shame that Fulci didn't direct a few more gialli during the early seventies. I love the the beautiful cinematography, the rural setting and the wonderful cast. Non si sevizia un paperino is one of Fulci's finest gialli and one of the very best films of the genre.

Lo Squartatore di New York (The New York Ripper)

And we finish off the week with another classic, the great looking locandina for Fulci's Lo Squartatore di New York. I've still got a few 80's posters left, so there might another week of 80's locandine later on in the year.

Una Lucertola con la pelle di donna (A Lizard in a Woman's Skin)

This locandina is one of my personal favourites. Like a lot of people, I rate Lucio Fulci's Una Lucertola con la pelle di donna as one of the best gialli ever made. Fulci provides a tight, suspenseful atmosphere. There are several standout sequences, but I’ve always liked dream sequences in euro cult films and the ones here are fantastic. An outstanding cast featuring Florinda Bolkan, Leo Gann, Stanley Baker, Jean Sorel and Anita Strindberg. And let's not forget the excellent soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any info on who designed the poster.

Una sull'altra (One on Top of the Other)

One on Top of the Other, A Lizard in a Woman's Skin, Don't Torture a Duckling, The Psychic, The New York Ripper and Murder Rock. From the groovy 60's to ultra-sleazy 80's. I can't think of a director who worked in the giallo field who has a more diverse and varied filmography than Lucio Fulci. This is the locandina for his 1969 genre debut.
