Assassino senza volto (Killer Without a Face)

The only copy of Assassino Senza volto I've managed to find is a low quality avi without subs, so I can't really tell you too much about the plot of the film. What I can tell you is that it's set in the Balsorano Castle (Check out this interesting post about the castle on the euro fever if you want to find out more). Considering the gothic castle setting and the fact that it's shot in black and white makes it feel slightly dated. Especially when you consider that a visual tour de force like Blood and Black Lace was shot a four years prior to this. The poster art by Studio Paradiso has got a pulpy kind of feel to it, but the film itself certainly feels more like a gothic horror than a 1968 giallo.

Il Vuoto Intorno (Shadow of Death)

Any seasoned giallo fan will have seen their fair share of convoluted plots, but the one in Il Vuoto Intorno where Denise (Teresa Gimpera) is planning to drive her husband John (Larry Ward) crazy by making him think that he's commited a murder with the help of his twin brother and her lover Peter must be one of the more improbable ones. That doesn't stop it from being a fairly entertaining film though. Don't know much about the release history of the film, but I'd guess the film didn't do too brilliantly at the boxoffice the first time around and that it was re-released under the L'Assassino fantasma title as seen below. Col cuore in gola (I Am What I Am)

Cul cuore in gola was Tinto Brass first and only giallo. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to see this, but considering it stars both Jean-Louis Trintignant and Ewa Aulin I'd certainly like to. At the moment there's an Italian DVD without any English options available, but according to rumors this will be released by Cult Epics during 2009. Let's hope so!

Omicidio per appuntamento (Date of a Murder)

Mino Guerrini's Omicidio per appuntamento was co-scripted Fernando Di Leo. The film is something of a spy/giallo hybrid and has a very 60's feel to it. Even though George Ardission isn't one the more memorable giallo protagonists ever, I still find the film quite entertaining. The chemistry between the two male leads is good and there's a a great sequence on roof that features some dangerous looking stunt work.
