This Italian/Spanish co-production directed by Juan Bosch is a good, but rarely discussed giallo. The film is not without flaws though. There are a few too obvious red herrings and a few too many false scares and there is a part of the final chase scene where it’s painfully obvious that it’s wasn't shot in England. Regardless of these minor complaints, I find it an entertaining effort. Pretty cool poster as well.
In a recent (very interesting) interview posted at Cultfilms en Kutfilms Umberto Lenzi states that he dislikes Un posto ideale per uccidere and has some pretty harsh things to say about it. I was a bit surprised to hear this, because even though it's perhaps not up there with his greatest Baker gialli, I still find it a quite enjoyable thriller. Poster by Angelo Cesselon.
I used to live in London, so I guess it's not that suprising that I've got a soft spot for gialli set there. There's plenty to like about Tutti i colori del buio though. Sergio martino rarely let's you down in the first place, but he's in great form here. An all-star gialli cast, some great dream sequences, cool London locations and a fantastic Nicolai soundtrack. This remains one of my favourites.
Tonino Valerii is most well-known for his work in the Western genre. Unfortunately Mio caro Assassino is the only giallo he directed, but it's a very good one. The film features a great Morricone soundtrack reminiscent of the work he did for Argento's animal trilogy. At the moment there are only seven tracks available on a double feature CD from CAM, but hopefully Digitmovies will rectify this sometime in the future.
